July 21 Update
FARMINGTON HOSTS BOARD MEETING
The HAMMRC board met in Farmington on July 8th to discuss past and future activities and how we are helping current and potential clients make a move to our corridor.
Josh Watson spoke about the NWA Robotics Center training program and how to obtain the HAMMRC discount for citizens of member communities. Dr. David Snow, President of the University of Arkansas Technology Development Foundation, updated the group about the Arkansas Research & Technology Park and exciting, cutting-edge developments. Bradley Hardin of AEP/SWEPCO (a HAMMRC investor - partner) introduced the online training course "Energizing Economic Development." The three to four hour course is provided as a sort of "Economic Development 101," stressing the basics and introducing several advanced concepts.
NEW VALUE ADDED FOR MEMBERS
HAMMRC employees Hank Hoggard and Wayne Mays participated in the SWEPCO/AEP Energizing Economic Development training.
The course covered the main topics of what companies want in an area they are looking to move to or begin doing business in and the types of things a community can do to develop shovel-ready sites to attract new business. Mays and Hoggard recommend the course for Mayors, City Council Members, Chamber of Commerce Leaders, and anyone desiring a strong experience-based introduction to economic development.
Thanks to our HAMMRC Investor AEP/SWEPCO, we have access to valuable economic development training for our community leaders. AEP/SWEPCO’s new online course, “Energizing Economic Development,” can be a valuable tool for small communities like those in our corridor; most rely on city officials or volunteers to lead their ED efforts. This high-quality, free course will fit everyone’s budget. After completing the course, which takes between 3 and 4 hours, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce/HAMMRC staff members Wayne Mays and Hank Hoggard agree that it contains time-tested, proven steps to success. "From the 'do’s and don’ts of marketing' to a 'Business Retention and Expansion Program,' this course is on-target and provides a checklist and roadmap for new or experienced ED leaders,” Mays said.
