Through the online course Energizing Economic Development, twelve Lincoln community leaders learned the concepts of being pillars of economic development, enhancing business retention and expansion, and economic development strategic planning.  Mayor Doug Hutchens, City Council members Billy Rusher, John Wood, Doug Moore, Clair Bailey, Planning Commission member and realtor Deanna Morris-O'Brien, Chamber of Commerce leader and business owner Katrina Asher, non-profit website developer/entrepreneur Morgan Lindsey, Librarian Dianna Payne, City library and Washington County Library Board member Wendy Lindsey, and State Representative Kendra Moore were the members of this first class.
HAMMRC representative Wayne Mays and Mary West of the Lincoln City Council, both certified in the AEP/SWEPCO training program, facilitated the video program for the group.  Participants were encouraged to apply the concepts and the instructions of how one can help the community properly prepare for interested businesses and manufacturers looking to relocate to the area.  In the wrap-up session on April 2 Mays and West challenged the group to create a list of community leaders who should be recognized as the "Lincoln Economic Development Team."
The team will organize and meet to begin the process of building on the positive aspects already present and will work on the items most needed.  In the previous newsletter the headline was "Sometimes You Just Don't Know What You Don't Know!"  After studying and answering the questions in the Energizing Economic Development course, participants are more knowledgeable and are ready to move ahead with the team planning that will include the City, Chamber, and School District representatives
"Who will be next?"  Mays has offered to help organize the same 2-night, 2-hour per night training program for other HAMMRC community members.  The training is free, enjoyable and challenging; just ask the Lincoln leaders in the picture above, and check out the website for the AEP/SWEPCO class below.

Taking care of the main commercial entrances into our community business districts can have a large impact on how we are viewed by visitors, prospective employers and citizens alike.

Who Put the ADVANCED in HAMMRC?

Research into promising areas for what would become HAMMRC revealed a lack of manufacturing. Focusing on ADVANCED MEDICAL manufacturing allowed for immediate benefit and long-term value of the target industries.

Integrating machinery and technology is the key for local communities by producing high-quality graduates ready for on-the-job training with the new technology embraced by higher education institutions. Advanced manufacturing production emphasizes flexibility to meet changing needs of the economy and maintains market competitiveness.

The manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and medical devices is expected to be the "wheelhouse" of HAMMRC. For more information read this article by Dennis J. Donavan, "What is Advanced Manufacturing?" from Expansion Solutions Magazine.
